Our Church

Church Outing 1922

Methodist have been meeting in Bishop's Stortford since 1823 and gained their first church premises  at 1 South St (current site of WH Smith) in 1866. The church has been on its current site in Bishop's Stortford since 1903. We are situated in the main shopping street and within easy walking distance of the train and bus stations and a short walk from the Jackson Square car park.  All parking is chargeable (except for disabled permit holders) and there are restrictions on street parking in all directions, except Sundays. We started on this site with just the church plus land at the side with garden and some car parking. Then, in the early 90s, plans were made to develop the site to include a large hall and some smaller rooms to be built on the spare land at the side and rear of the building.

The extension built in the 90's has now being adapted to bring it all up to the same height as the rest of the church, providing access for all throughout the church and also to provide facilities that are in keeping with the church's current use and vision for the future. A changing places facility has been installed, in keeping with our intention to make the church accessible to all. Please see our Gallery page for photos detailing changes during the building works.
