OUR MINISTER DAVID’s MESSAGE FOR MAY

‘And death shall have no dominion’ is the title and repeated refrain of a poem by Dylan Thomas that was one of his earliest published works and written whilst still a teenager. The phrase is taken from St Paul’s Letter to the Romans, chapter 6 verse 9: ‘We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.’ Although not a conventional believer, Thomas helpfully conveys the mystery and the hope that is gifted to us through the resurrection of Christ.

…..     the cross is not the end. Death does not have the last word, because the Christ who was crucified is no longer entombed, but raised to unimaginable life. The resurrection gives birth to our faith and to our confession that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. And if Christ is Lord, death has no dominion.
